the story behind the press
Discover the origin story of
sky's the limit press
hello, dear writer
I’m Grace A. Johnson, founder of Sky’s the Limit Press. This press first began as a hastily-assembled digital literary magazine in early 2022, but within a few months, my vision began to change. I knew I wanted to provide young Christian writers with the resources I never had, but a literary magazine didn’t seem like the right direction.
So I put the magazine aside, and published an anthology I’d organized on my own time under Sky’s the Limit Press. Putting together and publishing Tell Me You Love Me anthology was such an inspiring experience, and I knew then that STLP was meant to be a real press.
And not just any press. A Christian traditional publishing company that truly loves authors and works alongside them to produce excellent Christian content.
Publishing has changed dramatically in the last fifty years, twenty years, five years. What used to be a personal industry built on relationships[1] has become a conglomerate[2] focused on more on the bottom line than on literature itself. No longer is quality and creativity valued; rather, stats, trends, marketability, profitability, and politics are the key factors. The market is over-saturated due to everybody and their brother writing books[3[ and publishers consolidating, leaving books to compete for a handful of good slots[4]. Enter self-publishing, which has enabled literally anyone to publish and sell books, regardless of if they’re good or not.

It can be tremendously difficult to navigate the world of books in today’s age—but that doesn’t mean it has to be. We’re here to provide authors with a publishing experience that works for them. Think of us as a ministry instead of a business, focused on serving you, dear writer, above catering to bigwigs or ever-changing trends.
Even if you’re not ready for publishing yet, we’re here for you, to supply you with encouragement, advice, and opportunities that foster your convictions and beliefs rather than compromise them.
The truth is, now more than ever before, we need Christian fiction. We need writers like C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien and Grace Livingston Hill and George MacDonald. We need Christian authors who aren’t afraid to take a stand for their beliefs and provide the market with edifying, God-honoring, and high quality fiction. We need to foster creativity and conviction in a community that blesses and supports authors.

Hence why I created Sky’s the Limit Press. To encourage, equip, and embolden Christian authors to write for Christ. To help young writers and aspiring authors surpass the limitations of this world and do what God has called them to do.
God has a plan for each and every one of us. But in our own strength and in this world, we’re so limited. We’re held back by the enemy's schemes and our self-doubt. Yet God has already given us all the tools that we need to accomplish what He’s called us to do, and His Spirit can carry us far beyond the limits.
And that’s the story behind Sky’s the Limit Press. It’s not a business idea I came up with on my own—it’s a ministry God gave me when I least expected it. It’s a mission you’re invited to be a part of, to usher in a new wave of literature that brings light & life to readers and glory & honor to God.
yours in spirit, script, & skylines,
grace
