why we need christian fiction

If you’re like me, you’re probably craving something deeper from the stories you read. Something that you take away from the book even after you close it. A story that doesn’t just leave you with the satisfaction of reading another book off of your TBR, but one that fills you with hope and light.
In today’s society, Christian fiction isn’t exactly what’s considered “trendy” or “booktok” worthy. For years we have seen a huge rise in literature that pushes the boundaries of what’s appropriate and acceptable to feed our mind, heart, and spirit. Just like some books can have a negative impact on you, others can have a positive one. Which is why I believe that we need Christian fiction in this space. We need to read stories about redemption, hope, and God’s faithfulness during every season. Because God isn’t just the author of our life, but the main character in our story.
Now, don’t get me wrong. I know that there’s many beautiful books out there that while they aren’t specially Christian fiction, they do have some of these themes. However, the difference between the two is that God is a present figure in this story. That He is known by the character who has to learn to trust in Him through these trials and tribulations. Not so unlike ourselves whenever we are experiencing seasons of doubt, defeat, despair, and hopelessness.
One of the many things that I love about what we’re doing here, is that we are bringing these exact stories to our readers. I think that there is so much purpose in seeing characters who struggle with their faith. Because haven’t we all been there a time or two? Moments in life where we don’t understand God’s plan. Seasons where we are just trying to make it to the other side and are having a hard time seeing the light at the end of the darkest valley. Not only are they experiences we might relate to, but EMOTIONS that we relate to. Reading is known to increase empathy in a person. Why? Because you are seeing life in someone else’s perspective. You are not only following that character’s journey, but experiencing the feelings and emotions that they are going through themselves. And when you feel, you can better understand. Not because you may have gone through the same thing, but because you can empathize with what someone else is going through. You feel with them, not just for them.
At Sky’s The Limit Press, we want to bring you stories that leave you feeling faithful in the Lord’s plans. Ones that bring you hope for a better tomorrow. A redemptive story that makes you feel like you too are fully loved and never too far gone that God can’t use you for his purpose and plan. It’s so important that we see characters who have a little bit of ourselves in them. Because when you can see someone else’s journey and how God brought them through it, you have faith that He can do the same for you.
